Recently Stormzy has been making a massive impact on the mainstream with his last album reaching number 1, and high profile collaborations with Linkin Park and Little Mix.
With the amount of heat he has been generating its impossible that he hasn’t already got the attention of US hip-hop heavy weights. Drake and Kanye have already been heavily involved in the Grime and UK Rap scene, and even P Diddy managed to do a grime freestyle with Skepta.
Jay-Z throughout his career has had an arms length relationship with the UK Grime and rap scene – K Koke was signed to his Roc Nation label, however there was never a collaboration and north London rappers S.A.S were also signed to Roc-A-Fella via Dipset in the labels final years.
The simple fact is that Stormzy hasn’t even reached the pinnacle of his career yet, but is in a great place and has no need to rush into any sort of collab to boost his name, and Jay-Z is like the Deathstar in the rap scene. He only makes moves when he wants to and when he moves people take notice.
However Stormzy has been booked to play at Jay-Z owned Made in America festival, and he is a co-headliner at V Fest so who knows? Jay-Z is keen at grasping on trends and working his style into them to keep things fresh and relevant so we’re going to keep our eyes peeled…
