#NandosMusicExchange – Is Real Collaboration Dead? (Review)

The night of Thursday 7th June saw six highly influential personalities take centre stage at Nando’s in Kings Cross as they discussed the world of collaborations; from dream to collaboration to being declined features, they discussed it all. The line-up included the likes of AJ Tracey, Example and Sian Anderson as well as others.

Throughout the discussion, AJ praised Sian Anderson for her support of the start of his journey when no one else would pay attention to his music or even think about possible collaborations.

He also spoke about his dream collaboration, which to some surprise is Linkin Park and his journey from small freestyles to collaborating with some of the biggest names in the game including his latest song with Not3s. In particular, he touched on his earlier Skepta freestyle saying “I couldn’t collab with Skepta, so instead I made a song called Skepta over his beat”.

Other noteable names on the stage such as Example also spoke about their struggles of bagging their dream collaborations, especially whilst being signed. Example in particular spoke down on labels throughout the discussion, calling A&R’s, ‘Umm and Ahh’s’ and expressed his happiness of now being independent.

Overall the debate was very insightful for future stars and aspiring musicians, whether that be producers, artists or managers.
