With 2016 over and 2017 swiftly underway, we have a featured article on our pick for which grime artist we think is going to be a huge force in 2017.
Introducing, Eyez. For those who don’t know, Eyez has been making a stern name for himself over the past few years, but 2016 has possibly been one his biggest years yet. Still only in his early twenties, the Derby based MC has this year been at the centre of many Red Bull events this year representing Derby at events such as the London v Midlands | Mind The Gap: The Cypher and the Grime – A – Side clash tournament.
In each event he’s been turning more and more heads every time and has grown into his own strong force. His fast-witted and creative bars have made him a crowd favourite across all sides of the UK, as he successfully lead his team Derby (alongside Lox and Dubzy) to championship victory in the Grime – A – Side tournament and himself being named MC of whole tournament itself.
With lots of videos coming out this year, it shows Eyez’s work rate is clearly getting stronger and stronger, which is a vital ingredient to him being a real force in 2017. 2016 has involved a ‘Warm Up Session’ on SBTV, a JDZmedia ‘Spitfire’ and two further music videos on SBTV which have all been very successful but more importantly very good music.
Eyez has been establishing himself more and more over the past few years as he already has appeared on Charlie Sloths ‘Fire In The Booth’ in the BBC and has freestyles on different YouTube channels that stretch across the country. Eyez has made a name for himself with controversial tracks such as ‘F**k the Grime Scene’ in which he calls out other established artists, and the competitors of the Lord of The Mics tournament. This video racked well over 1M views on the YouTube channel JDZMedia and became a very well know track, especially in his hometown and the midlands.
During the first half of the year, alongside the London v Midlands | Grime – A – Side cypher, Eyez was also a part of the a mixtape that he helped organise with Red Bull entitled Mind The Gap with 11 tracks in which it features northern MC’s such as Kannan, Dubzy, Kamakaze, Snowy, Mez, R.I.O, and Dialect.
After starting MC’ing at 11, Eyez already has 12 years of experience behind him which makes him far from a newbie in the game and hungrier than ever for more success in 2017, which makes him a force to be reckoned with.
