REVIEW: Tim and Barry present Just Jam at the Barbican

Grime, meet the Barbican

Tim and Barry have been making some major waves throughout the scene this year with their unique videos. An array of UK urban artists have already graced their YouTube channel, from Skengdo X AM to D Double E. From the start of 2018 Tim and Barry have been dropping cold freestyles from our favourite artist weekly. With their channel and fan base quickly expanding it was only right to give the people what the want; a live show. And so came Just Jam.

From the get-go we knew that Just Jam would be no ordinary show. Preparing ourselves for artistry, originality and of course, some A1 videography. Of course, it goes without saying that Tim and Barry exceeded our high expectations. Just Jam was a must-see event but for those of you not blessed enough to get down to the Barbican or catch the live stream here are the deets.

Inside the place

Just Jam was held at the Barbican Centre, one of the biggest art venues in Europe and home to the London Symphony Orchestra. Was it ready for an almost all grime line up? Obviously.

As expected this wasn’t a traditional show. Tim and Barry took the live audience straight into one of their videos. Artists performed behind a veil whilst they were live streamed, this stream was projected back onto the veil with trippy visuals. We know this is hard to imagine so insert photo here.

We certainly thought so. And of course, a killer line up had to match up to the immense visuals. Belly Squad, Mez and Grandmixxer, Sam Wise, Devilman, DJ Funky and Afro B, Skenhdo X AM, YGG, Kenny All Star and Novelist all performed live on the night.

An air of theatricality surrounded Just Jam, with an interval and seated audience. But, despite some traditional aspects, this was most definitely a grime gig. Members of the audience flocked towards the stage leaving their seats to drink, dance and put up their gun fingers.

Tim and Barry created a revolutionary show with Just Jam, the perfect combination of live performances and Tim and Barry’s artistic flare. Just Jam is definitely one of the best events we have been to this year!
